There’s something almost magical about running long
distances (especially solo) that gives a person a new perspective on life
priorities. Solititude and repetitive rhythm of one’s own pace seem to lead to
deeper reflections than the constant chaos and crunches of daily life.
When we step out in sneakers to sweat it out for a
significant number of miles, we stop sweating the stupid stresses that have
been dogging us.
OK, that’s the lead-in for today’s “Running Quotes by Non-Runners”
pick:
“Don’t sweat the petty things, and don’t pet the sweaty things.” George
Carlin (1937-2008)
I might beg to differ on the “don’t pet the sweaty things”
part. I often run with two dogs tied to my belt. And I do pet them along the
way, especially when we stop for traffic lights and busy street crossings.
Hey, sweaty is sweaty. If I’m already gamey from a spirited
run, what harm is a little eau de doggy sweat gonna do?

George Carlin was a genius with wordplay. This is a great quote.
